Elias's Pulmonia - Gone with the wind

Owners and Guests yesterday on January 1st we had the privilege of making the presentation to Elias Lizarraga a check which covered all his cost of obtaining a new Pulmonia. This was a very emotional moment for Elias as well as those of us who could be present. As you see the photographs and the video you will see the tears in Elias's eyes and the quiver in his voice.

Short Story; a 150 Owners donated $10,325.00 to assist Elias, of which $8,100.00 went to pay for the Pulmonia, and the balance given to your Samartian Fund, this year to the Mazatlan Girls Orphangytlan Girls Orphange.

You may ite the bleary eyes Elias has as he thanked those Owners who were present, and to you who were not. This was a very humble man, and one touched by the depth of your sicerit and generosity.

Standing next to Elias is Rich Williams, a 35 year Owner at the Inn, who immediately steped to the plate and gave thrh financing necessary for Elias to search and purchase the new Pulmonia. Rich has been fully repaid, but we sill need to recogonize him "As a Man Who Walks the Talk".

Tragedy strikes one of the Owner's favorite people at the Inn

On the first of November Elias Lazarraga was driving his Pulmonia to pick up a touring group at Emerald Bay; when a fellow Pulmonia driver waved him down exclaiming, "Elias you are on fire".

Elias pulled over and his rig was indeed on fire with bellowing smoke in the engine area . He tried to pull the battery cables loose, but it was too hot; and almost immediately after, the whole rig burst into flames.

When Mother Nature was finsished, here is what was left.

 

The remains, just one charred Pulmonia, are now just a memory of his touring business.

Most of we owners have known Elias for years. He and Patty were just young people, when they met while both working at the Inn. Elias later became involved in the Sales Dept., and that is where he has made hundreds of friends with we Owners. Patty went on and became a Teacher at the El Conchi School.

Elias has been only working in Sales at the Inn in the mornings, and his main earnings have been his touring groups in his now gone Pulomina. He has taken many of we Owners, Guests and others on tours of the City and the country side for the last several years.

This loss of his 1970 pulmonia is devastating to he and Patty, as the insurance only about 25% of the cost of its replacement, due to its age. There is no such thing as a new Pulmonia, as the chassis is a 'Bug" Volkswagen with the "Pulmonia fiber glass body". There are only 500 licensed Pulmonias in the City, making it exclusive to Mazatlan.

Fellow Owners, we have a friend who is in need of our assistance. We have risen in our Samaritan Philanthropic annual drive to fund a charitable or human cause over the last 11 years, and this year lets rally and help our friend Elias Lazarraga with this devastating loss.

He has found a replacement, but at a cost of $10,000.00 (US); which he can't afford. Our Thanks to an Owner at the Inn who has generously offered temporary funds, Elias is being offered the opportunity to acquire a rebuilt pulmonia. This is only a temporary solution, but Elias is back in the Touring Business.

Now it is our opportunity as good friends to step up to the plate and assist Elias in paying for this vehicle. He is still working mornings in Sales at the Inn.

We appeal to you and ask for your consideration in sending a few bucks Elias's way. You can do this by sending a contribution via PayPal and your credit card; or the preferred way of mailing me your check. Regardless, Elias will receive 100% of your donations irrespective of any PayPal charges. The collected funds will be given to the Larrazaga'a on New Years Day at the Wall!

Guys we have surpassed what is needed to furnish Elias with a replacement Pulmonia. I'm going to ask some of you permission to move the excess funding to our Samaritan Fund as we will be helping the Inn cloth children in the Mazatlan Orphanage
